The National University Corporation Wakayama University (hereafter referred to as WU) is seeking to appoint a highly skilled and motivated individual for an academic position in microeconomics at the Faculty of Economics. We are seeking outstanding candidates with a strong background in Microeconomics, and particular interest in Information and Decision Sciences, and prescriptive analytics (Information, Knowledge and Uncertainty under JEL classification). The appointment is to strengthen the commitment of the Faculty of Economics and Graduate School of Economics to provide excellence in education and research, inspire curiosity within our students and develop problem-solving and leadership skills. The successful candidate is expected to make strong contributions in particular, to the development and delivery of our new postgraduate programs.
We invite applications at the tenured positions of Professor or Associate Professor, or tenure-track position of Lecturer. Candidates should be fluent in Japanese and English, able to communicate effectively to Japanese and international audiences, and convey analytical and practical information in a clear and accurate manner. Candidates must hold a completed PhD degree by the date of appointment, or have an equivalent strong record of research publications. The position entails also public engagement activities and administrative duties, which require strong organizational skills, and the ability to work under pressure to meet multiple deadlines. Main Duties
(1)Teaching classes in Microeconomics and Information and Decision Sciences both in Japanese and English. Student research supervision at the undergraduate and postgraduate programs
(2)Conduct of analytical studies and international research exchange activities leading to top-quality journal publications and presentations at domestic and international conferences.
(3)Public engagement activities including cooperation with local governments, and dissemination of information related to the faculty in Japan and abroad
(4)Collaborative participation in university management and administrative duties including activities related to student admission and career enhancement -
Expected Date of Appointment
October 1, 2021 or April 1, 2022 -
Required Qualifications
Applicants are expected to meet the following requirements
(1)A completed PhD degree by the date of appointment or equivalent strong record of research publications
(2)Strong ability and motivation to undertake high-quality research and innovative education
(3)Proficiency in mathematical and quantitative analysis and ability to teach related subjects in Japanese and English -
Working Conditions
Permanent employment for the position of Professor or Associate Professor, with retirement at 65.
Tenure-track position of Lecturer carries a maximum employment term of five years. However, within the period of five years starting from the date of appointment, it is possible however to earn the permanent faculty status depending on the review of tenure performance. The probation period extends for six months starting from the date of appointment.
Discretionary work system for professional work: 5 days a week, basic working hours from 8:30 to 17:15
Holidays: Saturdays, Sunday, national holidays, end-of-year and new-year holidays Dec. 29 ~ Jan. 3
