4. Job description
Tourism research, research promotion, and educational activities in areas that conform to the mission and vision of the Center for Tourism Research. Specific duties will include the following:
1) Research in the fields including tourism management, sustainable tourism development, heritage conservation management, which may relate to:
? Issues related to the development of sustainable tourism indicators for tourism destinations
? Issues related to policies, strategies and practices in development
? Promotion of collaborative research aiming for socially significant outcomes through public and private partnership.
2) Application to competitive external funds including scientific research funds
3) Dissemination of research outcomes in Japan and abroad
4) Establishment of research networks in Japan and abroad, especially in the Asian region
5) Strengthen collaboration with the domestic and foreign tourism industry
6) Tourism and education activities (including courses at the Faculty of Tourism and Graduate School of Tourism)
7) Contribution to activities such as international conferences and seminars organised by CTR
8) Support for preparation of business activities at CTR
※ Application for external funds such as the national scientific research grants (Kakenhi) will be expected.
5. Appointment
November 1, 2019 or later (earliest possible date)
6. Qualification requirements
Candidates are expected ed to meet the following requirements:
1) Hold a doctoral degree in tourism or related field by the time of appointment, or the evidence of equivalent work experience
2) Proficiency in English to conduct research and education activities (Proficiency in Japanese is not mandatory)
3) Having experience related to the above job description
7. Condition
? Term: From the date of employment to March 31, 2020 (6 month probational period from the date of appointment)
? At the end of the contracted period, the contract may be renewed in consideration of performance and financial situation of university. The maximum term will be 3 years from the date of appointment, and will not be renewed beyond the first April 1 when the candidate reaches the age of 70 years.
? Employment type: discretionary: 5 days a week, basic working hours 8:30 to 17:15
? Holidays: Saturdays, Sundays, national holidays, New Year holidays (Dec 29- Jan 3) (The details are based on the employment regulations of Wakayama University specially appointed academic staff)
8. Benefits
? Salary: According to Wakayama University's Regulation (Academic staff)
? Allowance: Commuting allowance (to be paid based on the university regulations if the payment requirements are met)
