Wakayama University
Wakayama University is the only national university within Wakayama Prefecture, a place cultivated over time in a setting of abundant historical and natural resources, including the world cultural heritage sites at Koya and Kumano.
Within this environment, the university carries out its role as the focal point of academic culture, pursuing research that helps develop the community, and nurturing the next generation of students who will be the driving forces of regional revitalization. Wakayama University responds to the needs?of society and the community through a governance system that can maximize the functions of education, research, and community collaboration.
Wakayama University consists of four faculties: the Faculty of Education, the Faculty of Economics, the Faculty of Systems Engineering, and the Faculty of Tourism. Guided by our slogan, "Wakayama University wants to support you throughout your life," we offer education and assistance to help students shape their futures, have a rich sense of humanity, promote internationalization, and address societal needs in their chosen field of study.
History of WU
Wakayama University was established in 1949 within modern education system and is the only national university in Wakayama Prefecture. The University started with just two faculties, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences (currently the Faculty of Education) and the Faculty of Economics. In April, 1995, the Faculty of Systems Engineering was established and in April, 2008, the Faculty of Tourism was established.
With these four faculties each having its own Graduate School, Wakayama University has progressed to become a successful national university committed to the region.
